FEDERATED STATES OF MICRONESIA PAVILION

Traditional navigation became the interpretive framework for the Federated States of Micronesia Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. Located in the Mobility District, the pavilion presented 607 islands across Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae as communities connected by ocean knowledge. Simmetrico’s content narrative highlighted master navigator Mau Piailug and techniques based on stars, winds, currents, birds and marine life, alongside Yap’s Rai stone currency, sustainable fibre crafts, canoe building, dance and oral storytelling. Content also introduced Nan Madol, the ruins of Lelu, Chuuk’s shipwreck-diving heritage and the islands’ marine environment. Agriculture, agro-processing, aquaculture, renewable energy and low-impact tourism extended the story toward investment and sustainable development. Through a cohesive visual language and targeted visitor-experience enhancements, Simmetrico transformed dispersed subjects into a clear national presentation, positioning “The Island Nation” as culturally diverse, environmentally significant and equipped to convert its maritime heritage into future opportunity.
