ASEAN PAVILION

For the ASEAN Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, Simmetrico translated the identities of ten distinct Southeast Asian nations into the story of one connected regional community. Within the Mobility District, the experience traced ASEAN’s 55-year journey of integration through the principle of unity in diversity, revealing how cooperation has advanced shared peace, prosperity and opportunity for its people. Handcrafted woodwork, woven textures, cultural objects and participatory displays gave tangible expression to the region’s collective identity. The wider narrative connected cultural heritage and extraordinary natural landscapes with economic integration, digital and transport connectivity, sustainable tourism, workforce development and youth empowerment. It also highlighted ASEAN’s solidarity in responding to natural disasters, its protection of biodiversity and its growing international partnerships. Together, these elements portrayed ASEAN as a people-centred, resilient and forward-looking region, connected by a shared destiny while enriched by the individuality of its member states.
